One of the most impressive remains is the ancient theatre which was one of the largest in the western part of the empire with a 17,000 seat capacity. Autun has a major Romanesque cathedral called St. Lazare, which was originally built as a pilgrimage church for the veneration of the relics of Lazarus. The cathedral is also famous for its incredible architectural sculpture. The area offers a variety of outdoor leisure activities such as rock climbing, potholing, golf, hiking and pony trekking, fishing or rafting.
